Eric Von Schmidt Studio

Eric Von Schmidt Studio, 44 Brattle Street

A graphic artist as well as a musician, von Schmidt was slightly older than the other folk musicians and became rather like an older brother or father figure to the more college-aged crowds. Bob Dylan credits von Schmidt in the spoken introduction to his song “Baby, Let Me Follow You Down” on his 1962 album, Bob Dylan, saying that he had learned the song from von Schmidt “in the green pastures of Harvard University.” Von Schmidt put his artistic talents to work on some of the iconic images of the era, designing posters for the Baez/Dylan tours of the mid-60s and for Club 47 performances. Samples of Von Schmidt’s work can be seen in the book he co-wrote with Jim Rooney, another musician from the Club 47 music scene, entitled Baby, Let Me Follow You Down; The Illustrated Story of the Cambridge Folk Years.
